so i just read an interview that President Obama had given as it relates to Israel and Palestine and i think we finally have a president who has the right idea:
"We cannot tell either the Israelis or the Palestinians what's best for them." it goes on, but my point is that we have a president who may possibly feel that what's right for the united states may not be what's right for the entire world. i think that's been a major problem in the past.
at another point in the interview he mentioned that the united states has always started relations with countries by immediately dictating to them as oppose to starting a dialogue and talking about differences and similarities and building off of those similarities.
it's about time. *sigh*
republicans posting messages on articles from msn.com and yahoo.com about Obama being the worst decision the american people have ever made, REALLY need to get a grip. i'm tired of reading comments referring to Obama as a socialist, "osama," and other clever names you republicans have spent the last 21 months thinking up.
c'mon, republicans, didn't we leave the childish name calling behind in elementary school?
it's that type of thinking that got us into this mess in the first place. this is the perfect opportunity to put your holier-than-thou attitudes behind and truly band together to make this country respectable once again.
i don't care that you're republicans, everyone is entitled to their opinion...but i can't help but point out that during john mccain's speech last night, obama was boo'd more than once (which is incredibly tacky)...i don't recall the dems ever booing mccain.
grow up.
i didn't realize until this past election how much other countries pay attention to what's going on here.
i didn't realize that people in other countries cared so much about who our president is.
i guess i'm glad to know that polls in 23 european countries all stated that they would rather see Obama as our president than mccain.
- i took off of work last thursday and friday, so today is the first day that i've been back to work in 4 days. it was lovely. i desparately needed these days away from work. my weekends are always so busy and it rarely seems like i have the appropriate amount of time to re-coop. i came back to work today a little more clear-headed and less stressed out that i usually do.
- thursday i had a doctor's appointment and then i went and VOTED!! Obama for president. seriously people, you need to vote tomorrow. i'm already registered and whatnot, so i just voted absentee-in-person at city hall. i can't even articulate how necessary it is that people vote, preferably for barack obama, but whatever your political opinion is, vote.
- friday i laid around the house all day and then we got dressed up for halloween. matt was going to go as waldo but was having problems with his costume, so he decided to go as gilligan which was equally as cute. we took a cab down to dixie and tom's house and they were having a party as usual. my favorite costume of the evening was the morton salt girl. i was happy with how mine turned out. i didn't take many pictures, but i'm sure i'll run into some along the way that i can post soon from my friend's flickr site.
- matt and i had saturday off and we literally did nothing but go to the grocery store to pick up stuff for dinner, we went to blockbuster to pick up a movie and the ice cream shop by our apartment had my favorite ice cream, so we stopped there for a pint. other than that, we napped on the couch and just hung out, all day. we haven't been able to do that in FOREVER.
- yesterday was just your standard errand-running day. nothing exciting to report.
all in all, this weekend was full of lounging, partying and errand running...mostly lounging around though. i really needed these few days off...i feel like my head's on a little straighter than it was at the end of last week.
after nearly four weeks of eagerly checking the status of my barack obama merchandise, it has finally arrived.
i can now display my car magnet and window sign proudly.
i ordered a sign for our apartment window and a magnet for my car from mr. barack obama's website...on september 19th. they've already taken the money out of my account, but my items are still processing and haven't shipped yet.
i e-mailed them back and asked what the hold up was...they just said i should allow three weeks for delivery. it's been three weeks. i just want my stuff.
*sigh* i hope i get these before the election or else they'd be a little pointless.
[the weather]
i complain a lot about the snow in wisconsin. i'm thankful that i don't live in louisiana, or mississippi...yet another hurricane is set to level them next week, and another storm may be heading in their direction shortly thereafter. i'm glad i got to visit new orleans 5 years ago...before the hurricanes demolished such an amazing and culturally beautiful city. i suppose i'll take snow over hurricanes. we might not be able to drive safely in 8 inches of snow, but when it melts, or when the snow plows come through, we'll be fine. there's no where to go in louisiana when you're under 6 feet of water.
[the circus]
not to insight any political banter, but barack obama's speech last night at the democratic national convention was amazing. obama for president. i'm interested to watch john mccain's speech next week at the republican national convention. hopefully he'll live long enough to give it. (way to pick a woman as your VP john, get those hillary clinton supporters on your side...don't worry about whether her politics mirror your's or not). while listening to obama's speech, it made me smile to know that my generation finally has something to fight for and something to believe in. i think we're a very misguided generation with few convictions and this is a turning point we need to embrace.
[the weekend]
3 day weekend that starts at 3 p.m. this afternoon...it's supposed to be 80 degrees and sunny all weekend. it doesn't get any more perfect than that. 3 days of the following: going out with friends; barbeque-ing with friends; barbeque-ing with family; catching up with housework; hopefully starting a new sewing project; reading a little; going to the gym; practicing my yoga...sounds pretty lovely to me.
have a good holiday weekend everyone!
we've had some pretty intense weather here lately...friday there was a tornado warning and same with saturday. there has never been consecutive tornado warnings in milwaukee county, at least not that the weatherman was aware of. west of us, near madison and just south of madison, there have been tornados that have torn roofs off of people's houses and damaged a ton of property, and we've had floods that have taken houses down that are near rivers and lakes that have flooded over and damaged tons of business and homes. some roads and freeways have been closed because of standing water. luckily, being near lake michigan, we're at a little higher elevation than people west of us, so we haven't seen any of that, but the southeastern portion of wisconsin has been repeatedly beaten down over the last four days or so.
we occassionally get tornadoes and storms in wisconsin this time of year, but not like this. this isn't kansas, toto.
so...how does this relate to yoga? i had the house to myself sunday afternoon...i put in my piano yoga cd, lit some nag champa and started a really relaxing restorative sequence that i had in an old yoga journal. in the middle of my practice, the whole apartment turned dark and the wind started whipping around. the rain pelted the tin awning. another band of severe thunderstorms were here. i was hoping it wasn't going to distract my practice, when in reality, i think it made me more present and more aware that i was simply a small part of the whole. it made me aware that life is fragile and i think that sometimes people, particularly people in my age group, think that they are invincable and it was a good reminder of how mortal we really are.
sidenotes:
- i wanted to run out in the rain so bad this weekend. just stand outside and let it hit my face and my shoulders. i wanted it to wash away the funk i've been in lately. however, with the amount of lightening and the tornado sirens, i thought it might be a bad idea...although undeniably fun.
- does anyone else find it bizarre that the news is obsessing over the "fist bump" between barack and michelle obama? seriously, guys. stop making news where there isn't any. they're just hip older people. let it go.
