i finished my second sewing project ever. my little bath wrap.
i had a bath wrap from victoria's secret that i used every morning and loved it to pieces...literally. it was getting dingy no matter how many times i washed it and the terry cloth was starting to fray around the velcro...so i went to the fabric store and perused the patterns for a new bath wrap and thus, this lovely sage green bath wrap was born.
the binding is a really dark olive and the terry cloth is a light sage color. i'm really happy with the elastic part, but i think my skills with getting binding around corners needs some serious work...well, i think corners in general need some work because the pocket sort of sucks too. it didn't help that the bobbin ran out of thread half way through the pocket corner.
all in all, it's far more functional and awesome than i had thought it would be. i think i'm going to add some buttons or an iron-on patch or something to the pocket to give it a little pizzazz...but otherwise i'm happy with my second sewing project. practice makes perfect.
my parent's bought me this great little sewing machine last christmas and i haven't had the chance to post about my first sewing project...or another that i'm currently working on.
my first project was a little yoga mat bag:
it's not a bad little bag. i made it from a floral-y textured corduroy with a jute tie. the bottom is pretty jacked up because i didn't (and still don't) understand the directions for that part, but you can hardly see it.
i've already torn the strap out of the bottom once. i was trying to pull a gym bag, a large purse, a lunch bag and my yoga mat bag out of the car at the same time and it got caught on the arm rest :(
also, the strap material ended up being too slippery and narrow, or the D rings were too large, because the adjustability feature of the strap never functioned...so i just sewed it together at a comfortable length. other than that...i'm pretty proud of it! the pocket looks pretty awesome and the zipper actually works which is more than what i was expecting.
i'm currently working on a little spa wrap/robe sort of thing for the bathroom. the one i have currently is getting a little dingy and it's time for a new one. i'm almost finished!
my family can all expect hot pads this year for christmas.
here's a little list of my new loves i plan to post about (photos included) in the near future (i'm terribly excited and can't wait to share):
- cooking (Boyfriend agreed to accompany me to a cooking class at the milwaukee public market, i just have to find one that sounds appetizing)
- sewing (i'm dying to post about my first completed sewing project and another that i've started, but i have to wait until i get home [i'm at work] because there's a photo of it on my camera i need to download to my laptop)
- organic & natural foods, being environmentally friendly (still learning about this)
- yoga (not a new love, but an everchanging love)
- arts & crafts (also not a new love, but a rekindled romance)
- going to the gym, general health, exercise and wellbeing
a few of these things, particularly the arts & crafts bullet point, are things that were the essence of who i was at one point in time...i went to an art college for pete's (or whomever's) sake. it's just one of those things that have fallen by the wayside in the last few years. i blame it on lack of space in the apartment, which is not an understatement...it's a small apartment, but i can't make that an excuse, if i want to create, i can, it just takes some creative space planning.
i'm so excited about the surge of creativity and the need to create lately...whether it's cooking something amazing (i made some great pork chops with mushroom blue cheese sauce last night for dinner) or sewing something instead of buying it or this latest idea of an art journal that i've been kicking around...the art journal would be more or less a physical representation of this blog, considering vox doesn't have the capabilities to transfer the blog into a printed book on blurb.com yet.
i'm inspired.
stay tuned...
